Fieldstone IT
Consulting & Engineering · Ian Walmsley

Experienced engineering for a defined technical problem.

Work directly with Ian: 25+ years in IT, including roughly a decade focused on VMware Horizon and VDI architecture. Fieldstone brings that systems background to infrastructure decisions, migrations, troubleshooting, automation, and practical AI integration work.

Where this is offered: Nationwide remote engagements; Central Iowa onsite work and other travel by separate agreement. Organizations and IT partners can inquire directly.

What this engagement can cover

A defined problem, a clear next step.

  • Horizon, EUC, and VDI assessment: a current-state review, evidence-backed findings, and prioritized recommendations
  • VMware and virtualization infrastructure: architecture review, dependency mapping, and a practical change plan
  • Migration planning and systems engineering: a scoped design, implementation sequence, validation checks, and rollback plan
  • Focused troubleshooting: investigation of agreed symptoms, findings, and a documented resolution or next-step plan
  • Automation and integrations: a bounded script or integration, operating instructions, and agreed validation evidence
  • Practical AI consulting: workflow design, data and access boundaries, an evaluation plan, and a separately scoped prototype or implementation where suitable
How it starts

Scope first. Work second.

  1. 01

    Describe the decision

Use the consulting inquiry to share your organization, role, environment, goal, constraints, and timing. Keep credentials and sensitive records out of the form.

  2. 02

    Define the engagement

Ian confirms fit and capacity, evidence and access, deliverables, exclusions, price, schedule, change authority, and handoff in a written scope.

  3. 03

    Deliver and hand over

Ian performs the agreed work, reviews the findings or validation with you, and documents remaining decisions and ownership. Further work is a new scope.

A useful fit when

The need is concrete and the boundaries are understood.

You work directly with Ian. His engineering work on Fieldstone includes AI provider integrations and scoped internal tool workflows. Each engagement defines systems, data access, change authority, validation, and handoff. Ongoing support and response commitments require a separate written agreement.

  • An organization facing an infrastructure or virtual-desktop decision
  • An IT partner needing defined specialist capacity alongside its own team
  • A concrete workflow or integration problem with a responsible owner and measurable outcome

One-Problem Engineering Diagnostic

$750 fixed

Investigate one defined Horizon/EUC, VMware, infrastructure or practical workflow decision and deliver prioritized findings.

  • Up to five TOTAL delivery hours, including intake, evidence review, findings and readout.
  • A concise written assessment, prioritized recommendations and a separately scoped next step.
  • A specific AI workflow may be assessed with an agreed sample, baseline and quality/cost criteria.

Not included: Production changes, implementation, unlimited estate review, blanket health certification and a promised root cause. Customer software, licenses, provider usage and ongoing support unless explicitly included.

Payment, follow-up and service terms

Prepay $750 after exact scope acceptance and before delivery.

Readout and one clarification of findings within 7 days fit inside the five-hour delivery allowance; new investigation is separate.

No launch cancellation fee. Please give 24 hours notice where possible. Refund unearned prepayments; separately authorized non-refundable third-party costs remain due. A fixed package has no unused-minute credit after its deliverables are completed. Hourly service retains its stated minimum once work starts; refund unused prepaid time above earned charges.

Report a Fieldstone-caused error in the agreed work within 14 calendar days. Fieldstone corrects that error without another labor charge. New requests, changes by others, provider faults, and unrelated problems need a new scope; an unresolved diagnosis is not itself a workmanship error.

Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm America/Chicago, subject to the operator calendar and service plan. Weekends by individual agreement. Availability is confirmed separately; a package is not a slot reservation.

  • Engineering time includes agreed preparation, implementation, tests and operating instructions.

Not included: Unbounded support, on-call coverage, reserved capacity and managed-service obligations. Software, licenses, provider usage and travel unless expressly included.

Payment, follow-up and service terms

A useful first inquiry

Share the decision or problem, platform and scale, desired deliverable, timing, and constraints. The consulting form asks for organization, role, environment, and data sensitivity so Ian can prepare a focused fit discussion.

Every engagement is individually scoped and quoted. Software, licenses, provider usage, travel, and ongoing support are addressed separately in the proposal. Explore Horizon, EUC, and VDI work.
